The summer holidays might be over, but the Ranch remains as busy as ever with friends old and new.
At the end of September, we were delighted to welcome back Caroline’s trainer, Paul Fielder, who once again floored us with his encyclopaedic knowledge of all things dressage.
A huge talent, it’s always a privilege to watch Paul in action and, judging by his comments, he was suitably impressed with Caroline and the work she has put into her three horses; Defender, Atlas and Favola di Notte.
Defender continued to surprise, bringing real magic to the party when asked to do so; Atlas continued to impress with his sheer presence now complemented by increasing suppleness and elegance; and Favola pretty much stunned everyone as the scope of her potential continues to flower under rider and trainer.
This really is a ‘watch this space’ moment, not only for Caroline, but for equestrian sport on the island.
Once Paul had been and gone – and Caroline had just about recovered from the mental and physical exhaustion that often accompanies an intensive workout with one of the world’s most sought-after trainers – it was time to welcome another legend on the warmblood circuit, Denise Mitchell and her husband John from Gamblethorpe Hanoverians in the UK.
For more than 20 years, Denise has specialised in finding some of the best Hanoverian foals Germany has to offer – including our very own Atlas. So, during a week’s holiday to Cyprus, Denise was not going to leave without seeing how the young foal she had bought seven years ago had prospered. It’s safe to say, she was not disappointed!
Sadly, we not only said ‘hello’ this month, but also ‘goodbye’. After six years at the Ranch, the very beautiful and talented Samantha left for her new home in the UK. The pride and joy of the Carter family, we know this stunning mare will be well-loved and looked after, but it’s never easy saying goodbye and she will be missed by us all.
As ever at the Ranch, as one stable door closes another one opens and this month we welcomed a stunning 12-year-old Cob x Arab called Baron to the yard.
Baron’s owner Julie recently moved to the island from Lockerbie in Scotland with her husband Dave to set up a shop called Mythical Dreams selling dragons, unicorns, mermaids and fairy items. Naturally, we wish them both every success in their new venture – and we’ll do our best to make Baron’s Ranch experience just as magical!
